March Ride

March 3rd - Oak Glen

The mile-high climate of Oak Glen provides a beautiful change of seasons, unsurpassed in Southern California. It's always 10 to 15 degrees cooler up in Oak Glen than it is in the valleys. Apple orchards cover the slopes laden with blossoms in the Spring and apples in the Fall. The scenery is more like New England, and only 90 minutes from Los Angeles on the way to Palm Springs. Oak Glen offers wholesome family fun in every season. Visit orchards, taste fresh apples and cider, enjoy hot apple pie at one of the several family restaurants, feed the animals in the animal parks, or browse through some of the many specialty shops in the Glen.

Approximately 200 miles round trip.

A trip from beach to mountains, starting in Malibu, working our way through Ojai and ending in Frazier Park - a little bit of everything!

Chapter Overnighter - Cold Springs Tavern

May 19th through the 20th

The Cold Spring Tavern was built in the 1860's as a way station to serve the travelers on the new "turnpike" over the San Marcos pass that was constructed by Chinese laborers to ease transportation over the mountains. Passengers boarded stagecoaches that were very uncomfortable and they endured dangerous roads and the inevitable highwayman to make the trip over the pass. It was a time in our history that was both hazardous and romantic. The danger has long since passed but the romanticism has been carefully preserved and can still be found at the Tavern.

August Ride

August 4th - Bouquet Canyon

This road runs north-south from Saugus in Santa Clarita to Leona Valley. In Saugus, the road is a four to six lane thoroughfare with a bike lane along part of its journey. About one mile after leaving the Santa Clarita City Limits, the tract homes are replaced by REAL ranches and open space. Most of the road that is driven today was built in the 1930's, although there has been a road in this canyon since the late 1800's.

It's the Grand Canyon - do we need to say anything else? We will be riding up and staying in Williams, AZ.

September Ride

September 8th - Five Lakes

A scenic ride through the San Bernadino Mountains, past the five lakes Silverwood, Arrowhead, Big Bear, and Baldwin.

October Ride

October 6th - Crystal Lake

Found in the San Gabriel Mountains of southern California, Crystal Lake is a lake in transition. Since the 1860s there are records of fires, floods and restoration efforts at Crystal Lake. Natural lakes are rare in southern California's Los Angeles County. Once thought to be formed by glacial moraine, it is now believed that Crystal Lake was formed by a landslide that originated between Mt. Islip and Mt. Hawkins in the San Gabriel Mountains. This closed-basin freshwater lake is filled by rain, snow and runoff from its small drainage basin. Lake levels fluctuate dramatically depending on Mother Nature's precipitation, but normal elevation is approximately 5,436 feet with an average depth of 35 feet and maximum depth of 150 feet.

Mt. Helix Park is recognized as one of San Diego County's most magnificent landmarks, where people come for spectacular views of San Diego, family picnics, romantic weddings and simply relaxing in the quiet beauty of the area.

Have you ever experienced that sense of wonder when, while out enjoying the splendor of the day, you find your eye drawn to a ridge top or mountain peak?
